Your Garmin measures every ride. This plan bends to your week.

Connect Garmin Connect and AdaptCycling reads each ride after your device syncs, re-solves the week when life moves it, and puts the next 7 days on your Garmin Connect calendar. No TrainingPeaks subscription, and no Strava account required.

  • Edge or watch
  • 7 days on your calendar
  • Watts or heart rate
  • No power meter needed

The gap

Garmin measures the ride. AdaptCycling plans the week.

A Garmin records a ride better than almost anything on a handlebar. Power, heart rate, cadence and the route all land in Garmin Connect, and the scores pile up around them: training load, recovery time, VO2 max, an FTP estimate.

The planning side is simpler. Garmin Cycling Coach and Daily Suggested Workouts are free and built in, and they adapt each day’s workout to your recent training and recovery. AdaptCycling plans the whole week toward your goal and re-solves it when a missed Tuesday, a sick weekend or a surprise group ride changes it. If you have weighed Garmin’s own options, the side-by-side with Garmin Cycling Coach and the one with Daily Suggested Workouts cover where each one fits.

AdaptCycling is the planning layer for your Garmin. It reads each ride you record and builds a plan that rebuilds itself when a week falls apart, then sends the result back to Garmin Connect. Your device keeps recording. The plan keeps up.

How it works

Connect once. Rides go in, the week comes back.

Connect Garmin Connect

One authorization from your Garmin Connect account, and it doubles as your sign-in. There is no Strava step in front of it and no file to export.

02 / 04

Each ride arrives after the sync

When your Edge or watch syncs a ride to Garmin Connect, Garmin sends us the recorded file within minutes. We read it second by second: power, heart rate, cadence and time. Cycling activities only; runs and walks stay in Garmin Connect.

03 / 04

The week re-solves around it

A missed Tuesday moves the work instead of stacking it. An unplanned group ride is credited, not graded. Rest days stay rest days. That re-solve runs on every tier, and every workout says why it is there. Asking the coach to rework the plan for illness or travel is part of the Coach tier.

04 / 04

The next 7 days land in Garmin Connect

Planned workouts go to your Garmin Connect calendar, and your Edge or watch picks them up at its next sync. When the plan changes, the changed days are replaced right away, and an hourly pass catches anything that did not land.

What moves

Rides in, workouts out. Nothing else.

We read the ride file, not Garmin’s scores. Health data, sleep, HRV, Body Battery, Training Status and Training Readiness stay in Garmin Connect. Activities you type in or edit by hand in Garmin Connect are skipped, because made-up numbers would distort your training load.

DataWhat it does
Ride filesThe recorded file, read second by second
Power, heart rate & cadenceUsed to estimate FTP and track training load
Cycling activitiesRoad, gravel, mountain, indoor, virtual, cyclocross and track
Planned workoutsThe next 7 days, on your Garmin Connect calendar
TargetsWatt ranges, or heart-rate ranges without power
Plan changesChanged days are replaced; an hourly pass catches the rest

History note: the Garmin connection starts on the day you connect. Older rides come in through intervals.icu or a Garmin Connect export (Account → Data Management → Export Your Data), and a ride that arrives both ways is stored once.

On the device

What reaches your Garmin, and when.

The good half

Each structured ride for the next 7 days sits on its own date in your Garmin Connect calendar as a structured workout, step by step. With a power meter the steps carry watt ranges from your FTP; without one, heart-rate ranges in beats per minute. Rest days are not sent, so an empty day on the calendar means rest. When the week changes, only the changed days are replaced.

The limit

Garmin Connect is the hand-off. Your Edge or watch picks the workouts up at its next sync with Garmin Connect, so sync before you ride. Workout import must be switched on for AdaptCycling in Garmin Connect; if it is off, Account → Data sources tells you to switch it on and reconnect. A day that went missing on the device can be sent again with the Garmin send button on that day.

Already sending workouts to Garmin through intervals.icu? With Garmin Connect connected directly, that route steps aside, so a session never lands twice. If TrainingPeaks is the calendar you pay for today, read what Garmin buying TrainingPeaks means for you.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Which Garmin devices does this work with?

Rides come from your Garmin Connect account, not from the device, so a ride recorded on an Edge or a watch reaches us once it syncs to Garmin Connect. Workouts go to your Garmin Connect calendar. To follow them on the bike, your model needs to show workouts from the Garmin Connect calendar; check that in Garmin's manual for your device.

Do you get my past rides when I connect?

No. The Garmin connection delivers rides you record after you connect, from that day forward. For your history, pick one of two routes. Connect intervals.icu, which already holds your Garmin rides if you linked the two, and we read the last six months from it. Or export from Garmin Connect (Account → Data Management → Export Your Data) and upload the .fit files as they are. A ride that reaches us both ways is stored once.

Why isn't my workout on my Edge yet?

Three things to check, in order. First, sync the Edge or watch with Garmin Connect: the workout sits in your Garmin Connect calendar until the device syncs. Second, workout import must be switched on for AdaptCycling in Garmin Connect. Without it, Account → Data sources shows a line asking you to switch it on and reconnect. Third, open the day and tap its Garmin send button, which sends that day again, for example after you deleted it on the device.

Do I need a power meter?

No. With power, each step carries a watt range built from your FTP, which we estimate from your own power curve so there is no test to ride first. Without power, the same workout goes to Garmin Connect with heart-rate ranges in beats per minute instead.

Do you read Body Battery, sleep, HRV or Training Readiness?

No. We read the rides you record: the ride file's power, heart rate, cadence and time. Garmin's health data, sleep, HRV, Body Battery, Training Status and Training Readiness are not read. Training load is computed from the ride itself.

I send workouts to Garmin through intervals.icu. Will I get two copies?

No. Once Garmin Connect is connected directly with workout import on, the intervals.icu calendar push steps aside, so each session lands on your Garmin once. You can keep intervals.icu connected for its charts and your ride history.

How is this different from Garmin Cycling Coach?

Garmin Cycling Coach is free and lives inside Garmin Connect. It adapts each day's workout to your recent training and recovery. AdaptCycling re-solves the whole week around the ride you missed or the one you added, and sends the changed days back to Garmin Connect. Coach is $15/mo after a 14-day trial with no card.
